Two tips I learned from the Rider Course. The first I learned first-hand, the second I learned in the class-room:

1. Stay Dry
2. Stay Visible

A day out on the range in the downpour, and memories of my scooter buddy John from England, showed me that being wet on a scoot, in traffic is not fun.

So yesterday I ordered some more supplies in anticipation of my first day of riding. A high-visibility jacket and rain pants.

Steve over at Scooter Scoop is a big fan of Icon gear. And he himself seems to have found a way to wear his Icon Mil-Spec Hi-Visibility vest in a semi-fashionable fashion, even if he then compliments it with short pants.

Apparently these things are designed for Military bases where in the US it’s mandatory that riders on base wear one. There’s a nice straightforward video review here. I ordered mine in X-L to fit over my jacket. I also ordered it in yellow, so I don’t look like a complete idiot in a matching orange outfit on an orange scoot. Still, with all these citrus colors going on, I am going to stand out. I just hope, not to the cops.

Rain pants? Ahem, not so sexy.

But man did Sunday teach me that they are a requirement.

I ordered both from RidersDiscount.com.
