Does a scooter pollute more than a HUMMER?
The ecologically-obsessed folks over at AutoBlogGreen have released a response today which hopefully puts to bed some of the recent debate over scooter pollution emissions.
Seems some of the green-beans out there have been complaining that folks who have been looking to buy a scooter as a more ecologically sound means of transportation than a car have been misled. In fact, some have gone so far as to suggest that scooters output more dirt into the air than an SUV.
Thankfully, for the most part, AutoBlogGreen rights this misinformation, with the caveat that:
The real question centers around the kind of engine that happens to power a specific scooter. As discussed many times on this website, older European scooters from the likes of Vespa and Lambretta used carburetted 2-stroke engines with nary an environmental standard to adhere to. Today, things are different. Nearly every scooter (including recent Vespas) sold in America at present is equipped with a clean-burning and fully modern 4-stroke engine with fuel injection.
