Piaggio US sales up 60% in 2008.

As the original article over at BNET Auto says, which auto company wouldn’t kill for 60% growth in 2008. And this news on the day that it looks as though Chrysler is going to fold.

Piaggio Group (Vespa, Moto Guzzi and Aprilia) sold 21,000 scooters, mopeds and bikes in the U.S. last year, up from just 12,000 in 2007.

Piaggio Group America’s ever-present Paolo Timoni is continuing his consistent mantra for the past eighteen months or so citing high gas prices, congestion and parking shortages as fueling the growth.
Of note from the article, urban centers New York City, Los Angeles, San Franciso and Seattle are the clear sales leaders in the US.
