If you’ve never been on either a scooter run or a rally, they’re great ways to get out, show off your scoot loud n’ proud and get to meet other scooter enthusiasts in your area.

Runs are generally one day or half day events that meet up to head to a collective end destination, sometimes to raise money for charity but usually just an excuse to get out and ride.

Rallies tend to be a weekend event that often have a campsite as the focus of the weekend, with music, dancing, scooter gymkhanas, awards, and runs as part of the weekend’s activities.

Runs and rallies often focus on vintage scooters as their centerpiece but generally speaking everyone on two wheels is welcome regardless of age, make or model.

With the NYC Mods vs Rockers run kicking off the 2009 season at the beginning of the month, the NYC area runs and rallies are now officially upon us. We figured it was high time to highlight three upcoming events in the NYC and tri-state area that run the gamut of scooter get-togethers:

The big one…
May 29-31, New York, NY.
NY Scooter Club’s Blockparty

Now in it’s 4th year, the NY Scooter Club’s annual Blockparty has gone from strength to strength with it’s inclusive encouragement of all NYC scooterists, modern or vintage.

This year, the itinerary is jam packed with runs out to Coney Island, Flushing Meadow Park and out to Scooters Originali in NJ.

Live music, DJs, food, drink and everything in-between occupy your time between the runs. If you only attend one NYC scooter event this year, make sure you attend this one.

For the full calendar of events, visit the NY Scooter Club forum.

Long-distance runner…
June 5-7, Ithaca, NY.
Ithaca Scooter/Moped Rally

Details are still being fleshed out, but Ithaca Scooter’s encouraging camping on-site at their store this year for their rally including a night ride, Saturday rides, drinks, bonfire and as they put it “Jackassery”.

This is a great example of the scooter experience being in the journey as well as the destination, if you’re prepared to make the haul. But, take a tip from us, don’t go it alone. Distance riding is not for the faint-hearted.

Keep an eye on updated details as they become available over at scoot.net and Ithaca Scooter’s site.

Bacon and eggs…
June 26-28, Montague, NJ.
Usual Suspects Scooter Club Rally

For the full-on camping experience a little closer to home, make sure you sign up for the Usual Suspect’s 2009 rally, being held at the Cedar Ridge Campground in Montague, NJ. The event will include local runs, a gymkhana, raffle, BBQ and of course camping.

Keep an eye on details over at the club’s MySpace and Facebook pages.

For the best place to keep tabs on scooter runs and rallies nationwide, head on over to Scoot.net’s calendar. With active scooter scenes in upstate New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and beyond, there are plenty of opportunities to stretch your eyes out on the open road.

See you out there, and have fun!
