This morning I am a happy man (sort of). My usual Midtown parking spot, which has slowly been attracting motorcycles and scooters, has reached an all-time high with 4 bikes and 4 scooters including a vintage Vespa GS. If this isn’t a sign to Mr. Bloomberg that we are out there and we need dedicated parking, I don’t know what is.

Why am I only sort of happy? Two reasons:

1. I arrived late this morning and for the first time ever there was no room for me. I had to park up the street in a precarious position on my own, teetering over a very unstable looking drain, away from the safety in numbers.

2. More importantly – as one of the spot’s regular bikers pointed out to me last week – it’s only a matter of time before the local meter maids feel like we’ve overstepped their patience boundaries. As you can see from the photo above, everyone has covered their bike, except the GS (and most if not all have pulled their plates). Everyone has parked respectfully, on the street, near the end of the street. But with a recent crack-down on scooter parking in Midtown East spotted by a member of the NY Scooter Club forum, I’m hoping we don’t start attracting unwanted attention.

Oh, and no, I’m not going to reveal the location.
