WebBikeWorld recently got their hands on the New Zealand invented Grip Lock. An alternative to the ubiquitous disc brake lock that locks the brake or clutch caliper in place to the handle bar of your bike or scooter providing both a visual deterrent to thieves (available in four bright colors,) and an alternative to crouching down and getting dirty with your front wheel.

We’re getting our hands on one soon and will feature an NYCS full review shortly but from what we can see, the Grip Lock looks like a promising device, particularly useful for scooter owners who’s bikes predate disc brakes. Also nice is the fact that the Grip Lock will prevent you from accidentally driving away with your disc lock still in place.

The Grip Lock is not readily available in New York City but it is available online from a number of resellers including directly from the original manufacturer’s website where the lock is clearly being targeted at scooterists. The website also features a number of videos demonstrating the robustness of the lock.

The lock costs a little more than an average disc lock at $72 but is shipped globally for free.
