Tom Boissonnault, technology teacher at Eastchester Middle School in Eastchester, NY is giving his students an opportunity to get into the art of scooter restoration as a stage to teach basic mechanics and combustion engine principles according to a recent article by the New York Times.

For a few hours a week last school year the students have divided up the labor (of love) of bringing a 1966 Vespa Allstate back to life that had originally been recovered from the bottom of a lake. In the fall semester the students worked on the body, stripping the paint and resolving rust issues and in the spring, the next class of students put the scoot back together.

The class was such a huge success with students, fellow teachers and parents alike that the class is now entering it’s second year putting together a 1978 Vespa P125.
