The NY Post has run a recent story about the ongoing battle of New York City scooterists and motorcyclists desire for dedicated two-wheeled parking in the city.

The Post interviews Brooklynite Cheryl Stewart who has formed the New York Motorcycle and Scooter Task Force to bring awareness to the issue and other two-wheeled concerns for local riders. Cheryl, a sculptor from Red Hook, owns seven (that’s right 7) motorcycles so is clearly eminently qualified to talk on the matter of finding parking.

In particular, her group is pushing to allow two-wheeled commuters to park for free in the much hated Muni-Meter zones around the city. These areas require meter receipts be visible on parked vehicles if they wished to be parked legally. Motorcycles and scooters however provide no means to display these receipts without risk of losing them to theft, weather or otherwise.

New York’s Department of Transportation’s response? Plastic muni-meter receipt holders are available on request. Local scooterists however have complained that these are not issued for free.

Muni-Meter issues aside, the group is also campaigning for a more significant win for local riders: dedicated two-wheeled parking areas to allow local riders to park their bikes away from the danger of being damaged by cars and trucks.

We applaud Cheryl for helping to bring this on-going discussion to a broader audience. Head on over to the NY Post to read the full article. And don’t forget to show your support at the New York Motorcycle and Scooter Task Force’s newly launched website.

This is what I use when Im parking in any city area. It simply holds the muni-meter or pay & display parking receipts onto my scooter. I also use it on my Honda Accord. They have them at the Potamkin Vespa dealership in Manhattan.

This is the best way to hold muni-meter parking receipts to your scooter, motorcycle or automobile. They sell them at Potamkin Vespa in manhattan on the west side.
