Scootin’ Old Skool have gotten their hands on the controversial La Vita 150, a plastic-bodied Chinese scooter that (very) closely apes the ’64 Vespa GL.

The folks at S-O-S demonstrate that while many scooterists loathe the thought of a Chinese take on an Italian classic, there’s a lot to love in the scooter that hit hard on the principles of scooter design: providing a cheap, efficient and safe form of transportation.

The scooter doesn’t just win on looks, but comes loaded with features that bikes costing much more should be envious of:

  • The tried and true four-stroke Honda GY6 engine under the hood provides remarkable reliability.
  • Automatic transmission.
  • Disc brakes front and rear.
  • Tool box style cowl storage.
  • BBQ-style luggage rack comes standard.
  • Two-year warranty.
  • $2499 MSRP.

We’ll have details soon on the availability of the bike which is being distributed in the US by power-sports brand Hammerhead Offroad. Hammerhead currently doesn’t have any NJ or NY dealers, but we’ll keep digging.

I’ve set three up, ridden three, and had to fix a bunch on three. I can tell you it’s just another crappy chinese scooter. Lost of problems, and horrible quality control. I could go on for ever on specifics(ranging from the crating and shipping, all the way up to serious issues . all three bikes have when running), but I won’t. Just stay the hell away no matter how pretty they are.

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but the La Vita is out of production, due to sales that fell well short of expectations. A shame, but that’s the scooter biz…
