Phil Daniels: Class Actor
Scootering’s most famous anti-hero Jimmy the Mod was played by teenage actor Phil Daniels in the 1979 film Quadrophenia hot on the heels of a similar portrayal (his first notable role) in the seminal youth detention drama, Scum, of the same year.
Phil, now 51, has gone on to have an illustrious career in years since performing a everything from Alex the Droog as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of A Clockwork Orange during the Nineties, to lovable rogue Kevin Wicks in the British TV soap, Eastenders, lending his voice to cartoon characters; with the Brit-Pop group Blur; and all points in between.
Last month Phil released his autobiography “Class Actor” which covers the behind the scenes of his career highlights including a sizable section on the filming of Quadrophenia.
For an insight into Phil’s youth growing up in the inner city of London and his early experiences with acting you can watch the following short interview with his editor below. Phil’s book is not yet published in the US but can be purchased through multiple resellers on Amazon.com.
Phil also recently lent his vocal talents to the pilot of Scooter Revival, a (hopefully) upcoming British reality show currently looking for a distributor.
