With the Genuine Scooter Company’s 4-stroke Stella arriving at dealers in the region in the coming month or so, we’re hoping that more and more of you will choose to hit the road on a gear shift (or “shifty” scooter) rather than an automatic twist-and-go.

While the process of shifting gears can initially feel like rubbing your tummy while patting your head, it soon becomes second nature and adds an additional dimension of fun to the scooting experience.

Fortunately thanks to the Scooter Swami over at BajajUSA.com – while Bajaj may have recently pulled out of the scooting business – their wealth of knowledge lives on.

Entitled, “The Gentle Art of Shifting a Bajaj Scooter and Maybe More Than You Ever Wanted to Know about a Scooter Transmission,” the illustrated article walks the newbie through the art of shifting, what’s going on under the engine cowl, and how gentle shifting will prolong the health of your scoot. In particular it’s helpful to learn how downshifting should be treated, and how it is not the same as downshifting a manual car.
