Gothamist.com has gotten it’s hands on a damning photograph from New Yorker Anthony Rebholz of the NYPD systematically cutting the chains of every bicycle they came across on Houston St. this morning in preparation for President Obama’s motorcade transport to his speech at Cooper Union which wrapped up a few minutes ago.

Why? Every bike is potential pipe-bomb which makes your scooter the two-wheeled equivalent of an H-bomb. Given this is NYU territory lord knows how many bikes were removed.

Following the NYPD’s recent crack-down on Midtown parking, those flatbed trucks are getting plenty of meet-and-greet time with the public this month.

Gothamist have yet to get word from the NYPD as to how one gets one’s bike back, but they’re digging. Head on over to the article to keep up to date.
