Parking task force gains new ground
We’ve recently posted a number of stories on the activities of the New York Motorcycle and Scooter Task Force simply because they’ve actually been gaining ground on the issue of dedicated two-wheeled parking in NYC – making significant progress where others have tried and failed thanks to their professionalism and tenacity.
We now have news that the NYMSTF has secured additional spots in its upcoming pilot parking scheme:
We’re excited that we have won provisional approval of four out of six of our proposed locations for dedicated two wheel parking in Community Board 4 Manhattan. We’re still awaiting the final approved resolution from the Transportation Committee of CB4, so it’s possible that there will be changes, but we’re confident that any changes to the locations will be minor. We’ll keep you updated as we get more information. Our next stop for dedicated two wheel parking will be CB6 in Bklyn. CB3 Manhattan has been patiently waiting and will be coming up soon.
At our next meeting we plan to do some work around the NY State traffic law governing eye protection and the ambiguities within it which allow overzealous policing. Our goal will be drafting revisions to the legislation which will put an end to this practice. Some of our other long term goals include a lanesplitting/filtering bill, a program to reduce unlicensed riders, creating a rider census, and exploring the feasibility of offering free rider training for all City Council members as a means of fostering respect and mutual understanding.
