India’s Highways of Death

The New York Times has a fascinating (though sad) video feature on the dangerous traffic conditions present on India’s streets, exacerbated by the country’s massive expansion of a new highway system.

The video contains a fair amount of scooterists, and demonstrates the traffic conditions in which these folks ride on a daily basis:

    India’s roads have always been chaotic. The situation is made worse as more people are able to afford a car. Now four wheelers are added to the mix, jostling space with other smaller motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
