Brooklyn Bridge closures through 2014
Well this sucks, given that the B-Bridge is probably the most civilized of the borough bridges for scooter crossings (I’m looking at you Williamsburg Bridge.)
Starting tonight, repairs begin on the bridge as part of a four year, $500 million restoration project with all Manhattan-bound lanes closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturdays and 12:01 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sundays.
What does this mean? Well if you intend to party late in the county of Kings and then head back home to Manhattan to tuck into bed, you’re going to have to leave that party early and hit the bridge no later than 11pm on Friday nights and Midnight Saturday or Sunday, or stay out all night.
Worse still? on twenty-four as yet unannounced weekends during the construction period there will be 11:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Monday closures of the Manhattan-bound lanes. That’s the whole weekend.
Throughout all of this, Brooklyn bound lanes will remain open (2015?) and traffic will be directed during closures to the Manhattan Bridge – I just hope the bottom deck will be open, because the top deck, by scooter, at night, er. no thanks.
