Ah, the Kymco People. This poor CraigsList seller doesn’t seem to be able to attract a buyer in a sea of Vespa love. And that’s a shame, because the People is a well regarded, reliable, and well reviewed scooter.

Go ahead and put this Borough Park seller out of their misery and pick up a very nice commuter in the process at a bargain price: just $1300. At an MSRP of $2,799 that’s a heck of a saving on a bike with only 1200 miles on the clock.

As the year begins to draw to a close, if you’re considering your first scooter in 2012, history shows us that now is the time to scour the web for used scooter deals.

As we enter the Winter many owners decide not to invest in another year of riding and price to sell. Come Springtime as the market for used bikes hots up, so do prices, so if you plan ahead, there are deals to be had now.

Today on CraigsList, past contributor to NYC Scootering, Melissa, is selling her beloved 2009 Vespa S150. The bike has a unique red and black two-tone color scheme, and comes ready to ride with a complete matching riders kit – a medium red copter helmet, gloves, raincoat and scooter cover. The scooter and her owner were recently featured in a CNN Money editorial on scooterists.

UPDATE: We got an anonymous tip on the bike from someone who has recently seen it which just goes to show that “buyer beware” is never more true than with vintage bikes.

“The bike originated in Vietnam and has some frame issues. The GP engine however appears to be good and the bike should only be bought for the engine.”

It’s lucky for you that I don’t have $2800 burning a hole in my pocket right now because if I had, I wouldn’t be posting this puppy to the world and would be in the process of snapping it up right now.

After a quiet summer, several Lambrettas have begun popping up for sale in the Tri-state area. Case-in-point: for sale right now in Summit, New Jersey is a very tasty looking TV175 with delicious red and white livery.

The bike comes complete with a sensible 12 volt electrical upgrade, a replacement GP200 engine under the hood with only 30 miles on it, and the paperwork that legitimizes the upgrades. As always, CraigsList photos are fuzzy, but the bike looks to be in a very nice shape.

Not so with this seller who has a terrific P200 up for grabs. In addition to the listing which confirms that the bike has had a top-to-bottom restoration including a complete engine rebuild just 3K or so miles back, and new electrics including the wiring harness, the post also includes plenty of video footage of the bike in action.

The seller has an additional three videos to view that can be accessed via the original post. All this for a very reasonable $2500 for such a desirable bike.

The catch? While the seller is advertising on the NYC area CraigsList, they haven’t confirmed their location. The bike is wearing Maine plates if that’s a reliable clue.

Normally when I see a ride with a paint-job like this my mind goes immediately to Vietnam.

This bike’s owner however has all the receipts to prove the $9000 that was put into this 1969 Vespa to prove it has never left the country and the restoration, while not to my taste, is legit.

In addition to the head-turning color, the bike includes a fully rebuilt engine.

A bike as unique as this of course does not come cheap, but if you have $4500 spare, you’ll shortly be riding in style. Available to view on the Lower East Side.

Piaggio has just announced an MP3 sales event with some great price reductions for scooterists looking to finally fulfill their three-wheeled fantasies.

Piaggio is slashing the price on its MP3 250, down to $4,999 from the original MSRP of $7,199. That’s over $2000 in savings.

The higher capacity MP3 400 is also on sale at a similarly reduced price, available at $5,899, down from $8,699.

The catch? These savings apply to new and unused 2008 model MP3s (prior to the recent slimming of the design.) Other special offers are also available on more recent 2009 and 2010 models, though the discounts aren’t as deep.

While it’s a shame that this reveals the dirty little secret that Piaggio still has three year old stock it needs to shift, the marque’s loss could be your gain if you’ve been waiting for the right excuse to add that third wheel to your scootering adventures.

Unlike yesterday’s post (we really do hope it’s legit) we can say with confidence that you can buy with confidence when it comes to either of these beautiful bikes currently listed for sale on Scoot.net.

First up is a very fetching 1976 Vespa Rally 200 that underwent a full strip-down restoration just over two years ago. The bike’s earned a couple of minor scratches since then, but Robbie still has a paint match in the tin waiting for you. $3500.

Second, if Innocenti is more you thing is a very nice 1968 Lambretta LI125 (with a 150cc head on it) with great original bodywork and patina. $3200.

We love us some Vespa PX here at NYCS Towers. While there is much debate over whether the PX is yet considered a classic scooter it is certainly agreed to be one of the best remaining ways to hop on a geared two-stroke stallion.

While the Europeans are about to hop back on the latest iteration of this bike, here in New York you now have the chance to own a piece of history for yourself.

Today on CraigsList is a very nice looking mint green 1977 PX. The color no doubt a result of a recent rebuild which includes a new 5 port engine (LML perhaps?) with only 500 miles on the clock.

Something is niggling me about why this bike is being sold so soon after a rebuild, with photos (with Photo Bucket icons) clearly not taken within the city limits, so perhaps more so than ever this is a “caveat emptor” purchase, but I certainly hope this is the real deal.

We recommend this bike to a buyer with someone with some familiarity with the P-series, or at least a friend to accompany you to make sure everything is kosher, but on paper this looks to be a very nice buy. The owner even promises to send it to a local shop to have it tuned prior to purchase.

The Scarabeo (“Scarab Beetle.”) A fine, fine scooter and one that has proven to be an extremely successful bike for Aprilia since its introduction in 1993 – leading to plenty of imitators along the way.

The 16″ wheels are a bonus too for the rough and tumble streets of New York City and one of the reasons the bike has proven so successful in its native Italy over the past 18 years.

This is a nice looking burgundy Scarabeo and while it’s a 2002 it has less than 2000 miles on the clock, appears well kept and looks to have been parked off the street which is always a bonus in this town. The question however is the capacity of this model. Assuming it’s a popular 200cc model which has a current MSRP of $3499, the asking price of $2200 is right on the nail for a commuter looking to get on a very nice set of gently used two-wheels. The Scarabeo range however is available in the 50cc to 500cc range, so a call to the seller will either nab you a bargain or an overpriced scoot. And remember we don’t recommend riding a 50cc scooter in the Big Apple, let alone home from the buyer in Staten Island, over the Verrazano. We’ll let you be the judge.

We’ve been guilty of spending way too much time lately talking about Vespas and Lambrettas, but if you need a reliable go-to scooter for everyday scootin’ around New York City there are plenty of other great bikes out there. And for many of them, you’re not paying a premium for the brand.

Case in point. This Washington Heights seller has a nicely priced 2006 Yamaha Vino 125 up for grabs. Just $1050 gets you one of the most reliable bikes in the business. While it’s now 5 years old it’s only done just over 3,000 miles and the bodywork looks to be in great shape.

In addition it seems like it’s been well maintained with:

Full synthetic oil, new air/oil filters,new transmission belt, new battery, new electrical switches on the left handlebar, new quarter panel.

The seller is even throwing in a 3/4 helmet and a cover. Sounds like a perfect candidate for a first scooter to me. Contact the seller via the original post.
