Strength in numbers

This morning I am a happy man (sort of). My usual Midtown parking spot, which has slowly been attracting motorcycles and scooters, has reached an all-time high with 4 bikes and 4 scooters including a vintage Vespa GS. If this isn’t a sign to Mr. Bloomberg that we are out there and we need dedicated parking, I don’t know what is.

New Yorker’s favorite (only?) online parking regulations finder, PrimoSpot has recently launched it’s iPhone edition.

While you may just as well plant one gigantic “bad idea” to park flag over the entire island of Manhattan, there are a few nuggets of parking to be found. Needless to say, out in the other boroughs, choices open up.

It’s official. Frustrated with the problem of bikers and scooterists parking on the sidewalk or alongside bicycle racks, the Philadelphia Parking Authority has begun the process of installing special zones for two-wheeled parking.

Boston clears up confusion over 50cc scooters, causes chaos

Boston.com today covers the news that the city is cracking down on 50cc scooter owners who have previously registered their bike as a moped under the city’s classification system allowing them to park their ride on the city’s sidewalks, and more importantly use a sticker rather than a full license plate.

With the amount of discussion dedicated to the subject of parking around local websites, we felt it would be helpful to summarize some of the key points that will arm you with what you need to know before you make your decision where and how to park. We’ll offer pointers whether you choose to risk damage and park on the street, or risk towing and park on the sidewalk.
