The importing of vintage scooters restored oversees has been a hotly debated topic with a lot of detractors, but it’s an arena in which Kevin has worked hard to prove the cynics wrong, working through several generations of improvements to get to the best restoration he can. We conclude our interview in part two.

Kevin Ochel is a New York scooterist who has spent the last ten years developing a very thick skin in response to criticisms while amassing knowledge of the dos and don’ts of scooter restoration. Last week Kevin kindly agreed to sit down with us and share his experiences.

When I started looking for my first scooter, I was drawn to the look of the vintage scooters of the 1960′s. I loved the scooters from the Quadrophenia era, the accessories that these Mod’s added to their scoots to make them have the personal touch, that set them apart from their peers.

So, I have decided to get a scooter. That part was easy. Now comes the tough part. A search for the perfect scooter, one that fits my needs, and ultimately, my personality.

Retro Vespa are a Manhattan based importer of Indian restored classic Vespas VBBs from the 60s. While Asian restored scooters have caught a lot of flack, this importer at least is going to some length to share the process.
